- 485 cases that were called for interviews normally went to National Benefits Center (NBC) first. NBC then distributed the cases to local offices and also sent interview notices. The few main reasons for interviews are:
(1) fingerprint not readable by FBI computer. You can infer this if you
were called for a second fingerprint shortly after you did a first one. If
this is the case, it is a good idea to acquire a police cleanrance letter
from the local police department.
(2) CIS wants to verify marriage;
(3) CIS wants to verify employment;
(4) If you ever had any police arrest record.
After interview, many cases were approved on the spot if visa number
available, otherwise most likely they will be held by the local offices to
wait for visa number to become available.

- I received a similar letter. In within a month of receiving that letter I received another letter with the appointment for an interview at the local INS office. The letter was a month in advance of the interview date. My interview letter had no details as to why the interview was being requested, however my lawyer did indicate that it could some thing the office wants to clear. So we went over all my immigration history, verifying and making sure things were all accounted for and made copies of all immigration related documents and updated employer letter and stuff like that and went to the interview. THe letter specifically said to get the original and a copy of all the immigration related documents and 3-yrs of tax returns, pay stubs, marraige documents and ofcourse birth cirts. The interview went alright except they requested police reports from my lcoal police office since my finger prints were twice rejected [i did not know at that time they were rejected 2nd time as well]. any ways we mailed in the requested letters the same day and within 2 weeks my GC was approved by the local office [ofcourse during all this time my priority date was current]. At the interview the officer took my previous F1 student and H1 visa papers and gave back my present uptodate H1 papers. From my experience I would say wait till you hear from them again. My understanding is that the USCIS-NBC is National Benefit Center which helps in streamlining the 485 cases using any available resources-in my case was my local INS office.
